	Demonstrate Knowledge (A series of practical activities for Coaches)
	Divide players into groups of 4-5 and get them to demonstrate the following:	OUTCOMES YOU SHOULD LOOK FOR
	Tackle - Get a player to make three tackles and sign off that he does the following (Do not make comment):
1	The tackler rolls away immediately	They demonstrate getting off the ground and playing the ball
2	The tackler gets up immediatley and plays the ball	They demonstrate getting off the ground and playing the ball
3	The tackler - as he picks up the ball gets his backside facing the opponents.	They demonstrate getting off the ground and playing the ball
4	Demonstrates the "gate"	Comes from behind own player and between head and foot
5	Demonstrates 1st player picks up the ball	Comes from behind own player and between head and foot
6	Demonstrates arriving player does not have his head below the hips	Must have head  above hips
	Ruck
7	Demonstrates definition of ruck	One player from each side bound
8	Demonstrates 1st arriving player joining onto his own player only	Can only bind onto own player
9	Collapse the Ruck:  Get a player to join it. Do they stop at the hindmost feet?	Must stop behind hind foot
	Maul
10	Demonstrates definition of maul	One player from each side around the ball carrier
11	Demonstrates correct joining of the maul after it has formed	Must bind onto his own player
12	Collapse the Maul:  Get a player to join it. Do they stop at the hindmost feet?	Must stop behind last foot

	Tackle
1	Can you tackle a player around the collar?
2	If the tackle starts in line with the nipple and slides above the shoulder - Is it  legal?
	Ruck/ Maul
3	A Player plays the ball at the tackle and a ruck forms - does the player now have to release the ball?
4	When a ruck collapses with the ball in the middle of it - Can a player enter the ruck on his own?
5	Can a maul be pulled down?
6	Can you pull an opponent out of the maul/ruck?
7	Can you enter a ruck/maul through the gate and bind onto an opponent who is on the side of the ruck?
8	If an opposing halfback has his hands on the ball at the back of the ruck - Is the ruck over?
9	Is holding onto your own player in a ruck and a maul with your hand being bound?
	Kicks
10	Players in front of the kicker - Must they stand still and/or retire after the kick is made?
11	Players within 10m of an opponent who catches the ball - must they retire 10m from an opponent?
12	Players within 10m of an opponent who catches the ball and drops it - are they onside now?
13	Name 4 ways you get put onside by an opponent catching the ball
	Offside /Onside
14	Can a player holding onto the ruck with the hand - play the ball when it comes out the side of the ruck?
15	Can a retiring offside player at a ruck tackle an opponent after a pass has been made to him?
	Lineout
16	In a 2 handed take and the maul is formed - Can the backs move up after the ball has moved 1 meter?
