| Demonstrate Knowledge (A series of practical activities for Coaches) | ||
| Divide players into groups of 4-5 and get them to demonstrate the following: | OUTCOMES YOU SHOULD LOOK FOR | |
| Tackle - Get a player to make
three tackles and sign off that he does the following (Do not make comment): |

| 1 | The tackler rolls away immediately | They demonstrate getting off the ground and playing the ball |
| 2 | The tackler gets up immediatley and plays the ball | They demonstrate getting off the ground and playing the ball |
| 3 | The tackler - as he picks up the ball gets his backside facing the opponents. | They demonstrate getting off the ground and playing the ball |
| 4 | Demonstrates the "gate" | Comes from behind own player and between head and foot |
| 5 | Demonstrates 1st player picks up the ball | Comes from behind own player and between head and foot |
| 6 | Demonstrates arriving player does not have his head below the hips | Must have head above hips |
| Ruck | ||
| 7 | Demonstrates definition of ruck | One player from each side bound |
| 8 | Demonstrates 1st arriving player joining onto his own player only | Can only bind onto own player |
| 9 | Collapse the Ruck: Get a player to join it. Do they stop at the hindmost feet? | Must stop behind hind foot |
| Maul | ||
| 10 | Demonstrates definition of maul | One player from each side around the ball carrier |
| 11 | Demonstrates correct joining of the maul after it has formed | Must bind onto his own player |
| 12 | Collapse the Maul: Get a player to join it. Do they stop at the hindmost feet? | Must stop behind last foot |

| 10 | Players in front of the kicker - Must they stand still and/or retire after the kick is made? |
| 11 | Players within 10m of an opponent who catches the ball - must they retire 10m from an opponent? |
| 12 | Players within 10m of an opponent who catches the ball and drops it - are they onside now? |
| 13 | Name 4 ways you get put onside by an opponent catching the ball |

| 14 | Can a player holding onto the ruck with the hand - play the ball when it comes out the side of the ruck? |
| 15 | Can a retiring offside player at a ruck tackle an opponent after a pass has been made to him? |

| 16 | In a 2 handed take and the maul is formed - Can the backs move up after the ball has moved 1 meter? |
