Dean Allnutt has aslo been appointed Operations/Liaison Tour Manager. Well done guys!
North Harbour 61, Thailand 10, HT Score 35-7.
Point Scorers: A Zaharia, C Smith, R Finn 3, D Moke, M Tongalea 2, J Clark Tries, C Smith 8 Con.
Harbour were too strong for Thailand in the 3rd & 4th playoff scoring 9 tries to 1. Harbour had a lot to prove but ended the tournament on a high note. Harbour did well scoring the most tries and having the best for and against record in the tournament which was won by Auckland 12-9 over Waikato. Harbour defeated Waikato in pool play but pressure and the voodoo of playing Auckland and a win wasn't meant to be.
Well done to the Harbour U85kg Management team and a special thanks to our club 85's coaches for their input during the campaign.
North Harbour 9, Auckland 19. HT Score 3-7.
Point Scorers: C Smith 3 Pen.
Harbour were out classed in their must win game or at least a bonus point from a loss to go through to the Barbarians International Final at Eden Park on Saturday. Auckland were dominant in the set pieces and their defence was outstanding. Harbour gave their all but just couldn't get that try. The Harbour boys now face the fast improving Thailand National team for the 3rd & 4th playoff.
Points after semi finals were:
Waikato 10 points - 61 For, 39 Against
Auckland 9 points - 73 For, 66 Against
North Harbour 9 points - 99 For, 28 Against
North Harbour 76, Thailand 0. HT Score 29-0.
Point Scorers: K McAneaney, D Airey 2, A Kingham, C Smith 2, R Finn 2, D Moke, S O'Toole, B Rameka 2 Tries, C Smith 7 Con, G Taylor 1 Con.
Harbour had to win well against the Thailand National Team to have any chance of getting through to the Grand Final on Saturday - we managed to score 12 tries, with Carl Smith scoring a total of 24 points, and get the bonus point which puts Harbour on top of the table with 9 points, Waikato 6 points who today upset Auckland on 5 points, Thailand 0 points. Thursday 18th becomes crunch day - Waikato should be too strong for Thailand and , the big one Harbour play Aucklnad at 1pm at Western Springs. There is alot at stake, "Battle of the Bridge" and the history with Harbour needing to win or gain a bonus point to go through, however Auckland need 5 points so it will come down to passion, hunger and who can handle the pressure.
North Harbour 14, Waikato 9, HT score 7 - 6.
Point Scorers: D Airey, D Moke Tries, C Smith 2 Con.
Harbour retain the Predator cup, but the mooloo boys never gave up in fact they lead 6 nil 5 mins before 1/2 time. The battle was even and both sides showed that they also can play pattern rugby even at 85 level.
Habour played into the wind which made it very difficult to control the game with ball in hand even the cross wind didn't help the backs who were trying to open the game up - patience was the answer. A try to Dan Moke and the extras to Carl Smith put the Harbour boys in front at the Break. Stern words from the coaches 'use the wind and play in there half' didn't happen however Daniel Airey on the flank stole their ball just out from the Waikato line to put us in front. Carl Smith added the extras. Waikato continued to battle in our 22 and managed a penalty to make it 14-9 in our favour to the sound of the hooter and the kick that landed almost in Howick was never seen again. A fantastic game played by both teams.
North Harbour 17, Ex Pats 5, HT score 5 - 5.
Point Scorers: Jeremy Clark, Adam Williams, Shane Ollerenshaw Tries, Carl Smith 1 Con.
Harbour 85's had there final pre-season match against a very high spirited Ex 85's reps players who had played for the jersey over the years and once again the supporters showed up to witness yesterdays hero's in full action against todays new boys on the block who will contest New Zealands first ever 85's International rugby tournament held at Auckland - the score level at half time 5 all certainly became a tense match to the bitter end, the ex pats lead by Mike Kitson showed all the experience of old heads who could still match it - in the end the youth came through. Special thanks to Craig Owen, ex 85's player/coach for refereeing the match.
North Harbour 47, Thames Valley 12, HT score 40 - 0.
Point Scorers: Rhys Finn 3, Mitch Tongalea 2, Alan Zaharia 2 Tries, Carl Smith 5 Con, Travis Keane 1 Con.
Harbour 85's first hit out against Thames Valley at Paeroa the sun gods were out and a great crowd from Harbour made the trip to watch some entertaining rugby. The word from the coaches use the width of the field, ball in hand, run them round a bit, but it must be tight and frustrate them, then crank it up. The whole team had a run so a good outing by all.
The 2008 North Harbour
U85s Squad will be coached by Billy Panapa, Tama Moke and Mike Goffin.
Dean Allnutt is the Team Manager and Wayne Rhodes “Team Physio”.
