North Shore 45 Takapuna 7
Massey 42 Glenfield 32
East Coast Bays 20 Silverdale 17
Northcote 31 Western Pioneers 29
Massey stay atop of the standings after an entertaining 43-32 win over Glenfield as North Harbour premier club rugby reaches the pointy end of the season.
The westerners ran in six tries, including two to Chris Vui, who made his debut for the Blues a fortnight ago. Kicker Regan Oxenham scored in three ways.
Glenfield contributed strongly to the spectacle with five tries of their own, Charles Waa with a double, and Michael and Daniel Little also crossing the whitewash. Glenfield remain in the top four thanks to the tryscoring bonus point.
North Shore celebrated halfback Luke Hamilton's 100th premier game in style, dispatching old rivals Takapuna 45-7 with five tries to one. Hamilton was among the scorers, as were loose forwards Josh Blucher and Dillon Wihongi, while Willie Walker as again on target, landing eight goals. Shore are second on the table and looking good to at least hold that berth.
Western were at time lacklustre, but still secured two bonus points. Prolific threequarter Ritchie Ah Chong was again among the tryscoring, as was Matt McGahan, who also added four goals.Northcote, who have battled a crippling injury toll this season, engineered the upset of the round, lowering the Western Pioneers 31-29, though Western scored four tries to three. Renata Roberts-Tenana was again in good form, scoring 21 points, including 16 from the boot. Prop Nic Mayhew, another to make his Blues debut earlier this month, also dotted down.
East Coast Bays moved into the top four for the first time in many weeks, but had to do it tough after trailing cellar-dwellers Silverdale 17-8 at the break. They are now 9-4-1, the same record as Glenfield, and one competition point clear of Western, so the final two weeks of the regular season should see a bunfight for those three clubs scrapping for two semifinal berths.
