It was a tough old weekend for many of our Representative teams this Saturday and Sunday as Harbour travelled all over the North Island to play fixtures in a range of age groups.
Our Men’s B team had a difficult afternoon against a quality Auckland Colts team at Windsor Park going down 24-33. At the same venue our Men’s Development XV came up against a strong Waikato B team that took the game comfortably 68-3. Our U19 team had a cracking win against Auckland U19A in the curtain raiser to our ITM Cup match against Canterbury at QBE Stadium. Captain Dylan Lam (Massey RFC) and number 8 Martin Brink (Takapuna RFC) both crossed for tries as we finished the game 15-9 winners. The Harbour team had the majority of opportunities, but weather played a big part in neutralising the efforts of a more dominant side. This win sees our U19 side head to the National Jock Hobbs Memorial U19 Tournament as the highest ranked Blues team and will play Otago U19’s in their first fixture.
With a number of our U18 boys (James Little, Lewis Gjaltema & Jacob Pierce) away on duty for the New Zealand Barbarians Schools side, our U18 Harbour side had to call on replacements in their fixture against Auckland U18 East at Mt Wellington War Memorial Park. The team didn’t start the match well and by halftime had let the match slip, eventually losing 29-8.
Our U18 Girls team had a convincing 46-0 win over Northland at Silverdale RFC. Kaipara College student Rina Paraone (2nd five) dotted down for a hat trick of tries while centre Florida Fatanitavake (Glenfield College) also went over for a brace. This team has enjoyed their most successful season to date and will play their final match against a Chiefs counterpart out of either BOP or Waikato.
Our U16 teams have not had the best campaigns, both teams playing respective Northland teams this Saturday. The U16 White team had a loss 33-17 to Northland North in Kerekeri and the U16 Cardinal team although leading at halftime managed to let the game against Northland South at Maungatoroto slip 31-15. In the U14 Blues competition our U14 White team had a very good win over Northland North 21-15. The U14 Cardinal side had a difficult time containing a strong Northland South team in the 2nd half as they ran away with the game 47-12.
